First Insurance, now part of Cobbs Allen, recently learned of a data security incident involving a lost tablet. First Insurance values its clients and takes the security and privacy of personally identifiable information (“PII”) seriously. This notice explains what happened, measures we have taken in response, and steps you can take to help protect your information.
After learning of the lost tablet, we engaged independent computer forensic experts to assist us in determining whether any PII may have been present on the device. From our investigation, we determined that a copy of the user’s email account was present on the device and may have contained a limited amount of personal information. We have no indication that any information on the tablet was accessed, but are informing impacted customers out of an abundance of caution because the tablet was not encrypted. The information contained in the user’s account depends on the type of insurance provided. For most individuals, the information in the account was limited to name, dates of birth, and driver’s license numbers. For a small number of individuals, limited medical information related to commercial insurance policies may have been included in the account.
Your trust is a top priority for First Insurance, and we deeply regret any concern this may cause. The privacy and protection of our customers’ information is a matter we take very seriously, and we have taken steps to prevent this type of event from occurring in the future. We have reviewed our policies and procedures to ensure that there are no exceptions to our encryption policy. We have also audited all devices and determined that this was the only one that was not encrypted.
